(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh Father’s Day does bring out all kinda emotion in people—love, confusion, pride, and in some homes, pure comedy that could win Oscar if life was a movie.
One teacher just start work in a school and she see two small boys sitting down in class looking so much alike that she nearly drop she register book. She walk over slow-slow, like she trying to solve mystery. “Twins…?” she ask, smiling sweet like she solve the case.
The boys look at she, look at each other, and one answer with full confidence: “No miss, we are neighbours!”
It remind dem boys of a few years ago as Father’s Day approached. One father sitting down home, scrolling through he phone, pretending he relaxed, but deep down he calculating like a finance minister. He say, “My kids are buying me gifts for Father’s Day… hope I can afford it.”
Dem boys seh that is the only day in the year when appreciation and bankruptcy does walk hand in hand. Because once children start “honouring” you, your wallet start crying louder than a baby who miss milk.
And in another household, a father decide he want validation. So, he call out, serious like he doing a census: “Anthony, do you think I am a bad father?” There is a long silence.
Then the son answer calm and innocent: “My name is Paul.”
But truth be told, Father’s Day is like that. You does try to measure your worth in gifts, hugs, and greetings, but life does respond with jokes, surprises, and sometimes a reminder that parenting is mostly guessing with confidence.
So dem boys seh to all fathers: whether you getting mistaken identity, unexpected bills, or philosophical silence from your children—hold it together. Because at the end of the day, being a father is not about always getting it right. It is about showing up, staying present, and laughing at the madness when life turn into comedy sketch you didn’t audition for.
Talk half. Leff half.
