(Kaieteur News) – Former United States (U.S.) Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch is leading a U.S. Industry Executive delegation to Guyana to meet with government officials and discuss investment opportunities here.

Lynch served for almost five years as the American envoy to Guyana, before departing in late 2023.

On Tuesday, the delegation met with Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar to discuss investment opportunities across the aviation, energy, water and maritime sectors. Parliamentary Secretary, Thandi McAllister, Director General Alfonso De Armas, and Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Guyana, Richard Leo participated in the engagement.

Moreover, on Wednesday, the delegation met with Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, to discuss investment opportunities within Guyana’s rapidly expanding agriculture sector.

Mustapha told the U.S. delegation that Guyana possesses several competitive advantages that positions it to become a leading agricultural producer, including vast expanses of flat, arable land and an abundance of fresh water resources.

The Ministry of Agriculture in a statement noted that during the engagement, Minister Mustapha highlighted the significant transformation taking place within the sector and outlined the government’s vision of positioning the country as a major agricultural powerhouse in the region.

He explained that while Guyana has made substantial gains in increasing agricultural production, the government is also focused on developing a robust agro-industrial sector that will allow the country to move beyond primary production and add greater value to agricultural commodities.

Mustapha outlined that the government is actively working to create opportunities for strategic partnerships between local stakeholders and international investors, which include linking local farmers and landowners with investors who are interested in large-scale agricultural production and agro-processing ventures, while also promoting Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to accelerate growth across the sector.

Moreover, the minister also underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that local private sector entities play a central role in the development of new agricultural industries. In this regard, he pointed to the ongoing corn and soya bean project in the Tacama Savannah, which was conceptualised by President Irfaan Ali and is being developed through collaboration between the government and private sector partners.

He further highlighted the significant market opportunities available within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region, noting that there is strong demand for a number of commodities produced in Guyana.

Present at the meeting were the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dhaneshwar Deonarine, and President of the Caribbean Poultry Association and Managing Director of Bounty Farm Ltd, David Fernandes.

Kaieteur News recently reported that the Government of Guyana is in talks with the U.S. Government to expand U.S. private sector engagement in Guyana and increase commercial ties and investment. Last week, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hugh Todd and Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud held a series of high-level engagements in Washington, D.C., aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Guyana and the U.S. across key areas including energy, defence, diplomacy, and economic cooperation.
