‘IsWe’ pleads guilty to 2021 murder of girlfriend
(Kaieteur News) – Shaquawn Alleyne, also known as “IsWe” has pleaded guilty to murdering his girlfriend 20-year-old Shonnette Dover who was shot to the head and buried in a shallow grave in his backyard at Canvas City, Wismar, Linden, Region 10, back in 2021.
Alleyne entered a guilty plea when he appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Demerara High Court on Tuesday. The judge ordered a psychiatric assessment, a probation report, and also a report from the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), all to be submitted to the court before sentencing on June 17, 2026.

After being on the run for nearly three years, Alleyne was apprehended by Suriname authorities in 2024, who handed him over to Guyanese authorities. While in custody, Alleyne reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming it was an accident.

Following a preliminary inquiry (PI), Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool at the Linden Magistrates’ Court in March 2025 concluded that there was sufficient evidence for Alleyne to face trial at the Demerara Assizes. A post-mortem examination conducted on Dover’s body concluded that she died from a single gunshot to the head.
According to reports, Dover’s decomposing body was discovered on April 30, 2021, 28 days after she went missing.
After Dover was reported missing, Alleyne in a video that was widely circulated on social media, appeared to be heartbroken and deeply concerned about his girlfriend’s disappearance.
He reported her missing on April 4, 2021, claiming he had no knowledge of her whereabouts and assumed she had left for work. However, Alleyne later fled the jurisdiction and a wanted bulletin was issued for him.
Meanwhile, Dover’s 15-year-old relative had confessed to helping Alleyne bury her body and subsequently led police to the burial site. The relative was charged with accessory after the fact of murder and was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Centre.
