(Kaieteur News) – Oh what a thing! Dem boys just sit down and watch how the latest fashion in governance done arrive with full energy—Public Days. And dem boys seh is like government decide say regular office hours too boring, so now we moving with a whole travelling roadshow instead.
Yes, instead of Cabinet Outreach, we now got Public Days. Same vibes, different name, bigger tent.
And dem boys seh it sounding real fancy too—like if you change the label, the cost gon feel lighter. But one thing still puzzling dem boys: how much all of this really costing? Because every time Public Day roll up, it look like the whole State pack up and move—ministers, staffers, security, chairs, tents, flags, microphones, water bottles, and enough paperwork to deforest a small savannah.
And dem boys asking a simple question: what exactly this solving that can’t already be solved in government offices?
Because now we got government offices expanding in every region—real offices, permanent ones, with actual desks, computers, and people who does sit down there every day ready to deal with public services. So dem boys wondering if Public Days is solving problems, or just relocating them temporarily under a bigger tent.
It nice to see people getting attention, yes. It nice to see officials come face-to-face with communities, yes. If every ministry already got regional offices offering services, then what Public Days really doing—besides duplicating the same conversations, only louder and with more folding chairs?
And don’t forget the economy side of things. Oh yes, dem boys hear that argument plenty: “It good for local business.” Dem hire cars and mini-buses doing brisk business bringing all dem people wah gat issues. Dem food vendors doing well t00 because after de waiting, people does need to buy a drink and something to eat. Everybody smiling—except the taxpayer footing the bill for what look like a travelling government village.
Dem boys seh if you add up all the logistics, transport, overtime, accommodation, and staging, you might find out say some of these Public Days costing enough to fix a few roads.
But the real comedy come when people raise issues. Because Public Days suppose to bring government closer to the people—so closer that sometimes you raising your problem in front of the whole political entourage, like you performing live on stage.
And the response? Ah boy. That’s where the real entertainment start. You get verbal gymnastics, policy acrobatics, promise juggling—everything except a straight answer. Dem boys seh is like watching governance Olympics, where everyone competing in the 100-metre dodge-the-question race.
So dem boys left wondering: are Public Days really a tool for solving problems—or just a very expensive way of reminding people that problems still exist?
Talk half. Leff half.
