Kaieteur Sports – Diamond Secondary School and The Bishop’s High School captured separate titles when the James “Uprising” Lewis Tapeball tournament concluded on Tuesday at the National Park Tarmac. Diamond secured the Senior title, while Bishop’s High claimed the Second/Third Formers championship.
James Lewis continues to play a vital role in providing opportunities for student cricketers through this much-needed school-based Tapeball competition. The tournament once again showcased a high level of competitiveness, with several schools vying for championship honours.
The Senior final drew a large crowd, as Diamond Secondary faced Christ Church Secondary. Diamond emerged victorious by 11 runs to lift the James Lewis trophy. Batting first, Diamond posted 69-3 in their allotted overs, with Paul McTurk leading the way with a classy 32.
In response, Christ Church Secondary managed 58-4 before their overs expired. Despite the loss, Jarad Ramlalcaran showed resilience with a determined 28, earning the all-round performance award. Ravin Singh was named the competition’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Meanwhile, in the Second/Third Formers division, The Bishop’s High School defeated Westminster Secondary to secure the James Lewis Challenge Trophy. Bishop’s High set a target of 49-1, thanks to a brisk 16 from Aryan Persaud.
Chasing 50, Westminster struggled to build momentum and ended on 22-3, falling 27 runs short. Persaud delivered an outstanding all-round performance, returning figures of 2-8, and was rewarded with both the Best Batsman and Best Bowler awards.
In brief remarks, James Lewis welcomed the growing commitment shown by players, noting that the competition was highly competitive, with matches keenly contested throughout. He also expressed gratitude to the participating schools.
The next tournament for secondary school players will be the “One Guyana Independence Cup,” sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, and scheduled for later this month in May 2026.
