Dear Editor,
So, President Irfaan Ali has let the cat out of the bag, he wants control of the capital city, nothing new, a clear violation of the content and intent of the country’s constitution.
Our constitution makes it very clear that there is an important role for local government. However, no human being can perform and produce until he or she has control of money, machinery and the people to manage and execute given task. It is unnecessary to go into details of the constant efforts by the PPP to starve the city of funds, and deny the city control over the execution of tasks for the effective running of the city.
As we listened to President Ali’s address on Monday, as he opened the Aubrey Barker Road, it is clear he and his cabinet have no interest in respecting the constitution and therefore democracy. For the first time in our history, with massive billions available, the government has embarked on a merciless merry march to manage city and state. Giving out contracts to contractors whose work last a few months, instead of several years.
The statement we heard on Monday makes Adolf Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Ceasar look like infants. What is worrisome citizens, these folks with their money bags and, as we say “soup drinkers”, still have the gall to talk about democracy.
Pity the city and state that has a leader who is a fox.
Yours Respectfully,
Nigel Bacchus
