(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) is set to spend $119 million for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System at 32 locations in the hinterland.
The $119,946,514 contract which was awarded through the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office will be executed by Green Energy Electrical Services.
This publication understands that the solar PV systems will be installed at school buildings and teachers quarters located in Mabaruma, Matarkai and Moruca in Region One, Fort Island in Region Three and at Micobie in Region Eight.
According to the tender document by GEA, the locations identified for solar systems in Region One include Black Water Primary School and teachers quarters; St. Dominic’s Primary School, school kitchen and teachers quarters; St. Margaret’s Primary School; St. Ninian’s Annex (Barasina) Primary School and teachers quarters; Hobodeia Primary/ Nursery School, admin building and school kitchen; Koberimo Primary School; St. Ninian’s Annex (Black Water Savannah) Primary School and teachers quarters; St. John’s Primary School; Kachikamo Primary School and teachers quarters; and at St. Cyprians Primary School and kitchen.
The installation of solar PV systems will also be at White Water Nursery School; St. Mary’s Primary School; St. Anselm’s Primary School and kitchen; Lower Kaituma Primary School Annex; St. Anthony’s Primary School; St. Peter and Paul Primary School, teachers’ quarters and school kitchen; Tassawini Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools, and teachers’ quarters; Kamwatta Secondary School Annex and teachers’ quarters; Parakese Nursery School; and Santa Cruz Primary School and school kitchen.
Additionally, in Region One, a system will be placed at Kariako Primary School; St. Nicholas Nursery School; Assakata Primary School; Wallaba Primary School; St. Bede Primary School and kitchen; Arrowansa Primary School; Santa Rosa Nursery School; Kokerite Primary School; and at Koko Nursery School.
In Region Eight, GEA will install a solar PV system at the Micobie Secondary School (Blocks A, B and C); and at Fort Island Primary School in Region Three.
This publication understands that teachers and students will benefit from a more reliable electricity supply, when these systems are installed and commissioned. It is set to enhance the delivery and quality of learning, among other educational activities.
It was reported that the Government has set aside a sum of $6 billion for renewable energy in this year’s budget.
Kaieteur News understands that GEA has been actively implementing renewable energy systems at public/ community buildings across the country as part of the government’s plan to provide affordable, stable and reliable energy.
