Kaieteur News – Three people were hospitalised and three remain in police custody following a brazen shootout on Victoria Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara Saturday afternoon. According to a police statement, the gunfire, which erupted around 17:30hrs, reportedly stemmed from an ongoing feud between a 38-year-old businessman and a 36-year-old security guard.
Investigators report that the two men spotted each other near a bus shed and immediately exchanged fire. Both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their feet and ankles. A 52-year-old overseas-based Guyanese woman, caught in the crossfire while standing nearby, was also struck in the leg. All three are in stable condition.
At the scene, detectives recovered a 9mm Luger pistol, two magazines containing 29 live rounds, and several spent shells. Along with the two gunmen, police have detained a 49-year-old businesswoman. Officers are currently reviewing local CCTV footage as the investigation into the shooting continues.
