Angel Jeffery (left) receives the support package from Co-Director of the K&S organisation, Kashif Muhammad yesterday.
Kaieteur Sports – Linden’s rising sprint sensation Angel Jeffery has received a major boost ahead of the CARIFTA Games, with the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation stepping in to ensure the young athlete is fully equipped for regional competition.
The 15-year-old athlete, who attends the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (Multi) in Linden, is among a 24-member team set to represent Guyana at this year’s championships, scheduled for the Easter weekend at the Kirani James Stadium in Grenada.
Jeffery, who will compete in the U17 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m relay events, is gearing up for her second appearance at the regional junior showpiece, having made her debut at last year’s Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Co-Director of the organisation, Kashif Muhammad, explained that the decision to assist the young sprinter came swiftly after a request was made on her behalf.
The organisation has long been known for its contribution to the development of sports in Guyana, particularly through its support of young and emerging athletes.
Muhammad pointed out that Jeffery is the latest in a line of talents who have benefited from their commitment to grassroots sports development.
“We have always believed in investing in youth, and Angel represents the kind of talent we want to continue supporting,” Muhammad added.
Jeffery, who has already shown immense promise on the track, boasts personal best times of 11.78 seconds in the 100m and 24.66 seconds in the 200m.
Expressing gratitude for the support, the young sprinter described the assistance as both timely and motivating as she prepares for the Games.
