Kaieteur Sports – The stage is set for an electrifying climax as eight teams collide for one crown when the Hamilton Green Cup concludes its 2026 tournament with a thrilling ‘night of finals’ at the Plaisance Ground.
Action begins at the quarterfinal stage, where West Side Alliance, Zeelugt, Mocha, Mahaica, Golden Stars, Order and Discipline, Victoria, and Plaisance will compete for places in the semifinals segment of the annual Inter Ward/Village Nine-a-Side Knockout Football Tournament. From there, the race will intensify, culminating in the grand final where the 2026 champions will be crowned.
With the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final all scheduled for tonight, fans can expect a nonstop showcase of explosive and entertaining inter-ward football. Only two teams will emerge from the opening six matches to contest the final, keeping the race for the title wide open.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at the Plaisance Ground, where the top two teams in the competition will need to play at least three matches to secure the championship. From an initial pool of 32 teams, the tournament has now narrowed to its final eight, each just steps away from glory.
At stake is a $500,000 grand prize, along with hampers courtesy of Rick’s and Sari Enterprise. The teams finishing second, third, and fourth will also be rewarded with $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000 respectively. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top four finishers, while the tournament’s Most Valuable Player will receive a fitting trophy donated by Minister Bishop Juan Edghill.
Several teams have generated strong support throughout the competition. Mahaica, Mocha, Victoria, and Order and Discipline have drawn significant backing from their communities, while Golden Stars, West Side Alliance, and Zeelugt have produced key upsets to earn their places into the eight-team finals night. At this stage, any team is capable of reaching the final—but each step forward will come at a demanding 30-minute cost.
With everything on the line, resilience, tactical discipline, and individual brilliance will ultimately separate the champions from the rest.
The tournament is backed by former Mayor Hamilton Green and coordinated by former national football coach Lennox Arthur.
