Hope calls outs CWI for shortening 4-Day season, no Regional/international games in Barbados
Kaieteur Sports – President of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), Calvin Hope, recently lashed out at Cricket West Indies (CWI) after no first-class or international matches were slated to be hosted at the iconic Kensington Oval Cricket Ground.

Most commonly referred to as the ‘The Mecca’, was not named as a host venue for any of the upcoming the four Tests, six One Day Internationals (ODI) or six T20Is scheduled to be played between June and August during home series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan later this year.
Instead, those tournaments will be hosted in Jamaica, Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
“I really don’t see the rationale, something is wrong with the methodology in which matches are allocated” said Hope recently on the Mason and Guests Show.
Hope during another comment recently said, “Any first-class or international cricket being played in Barbados is welcomed. Cricket fans in Barbados deserve, our members of the BCA deserve to have the opportunity to watch and witness cricket live on the island.”
“It is extremely disappointing that Cricket West Indies has found whatever method they are using not to schedule cricket in Barbados,” Hope pointed out.
Hope also called out CWI for their decision to shorten this year’s Regional 4-day Championships, dubbing it as a step in the wrong direction.
“In my view, it is appalling that our regional cricket has been put under distress. That’s what I call it, because everything is being cut.”
This season, players and teams alike will brace themselves for a new experience as it relates to the more compact version, which is set to be played under somewhat of a Bilateral format.
In closing, Hope stressed on having a more competitive approach to the game while urging the CWI to reassess themselves.
“If you want to be competitive, you have to look very carefully at what produces that competitiveness. I think we are going in the wrong direction, and something needs to be relooked at the whole operations of CWI,” Hope explained.
