(Kaieteur News) – The online portal for the citizens to apply for their $100,000 cash grant is now live, the Ministry of Finance announced on Thursday.
In a statement to the media, the ministry said that the government is moving to distribute the second phase of the grant as promised by the president. Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh announced that the online portal, through which eligible citizens can self-register for the grant, went live on Thursday and can be accessed at https://cashgrant.gov.gy.
The minister indicated that persons can self-register using the portal and that government continues to urge citizens to ensure that they have a bank account in their name at a local commercial bank as this is the easiest and fastest way they can receive the cash grant.
He added that without leaving their homes, eligible citizens can access the new online platform, fill out the information required and once a simple verification process is completed, they should receive their cash grant. Dr. Singh emphasised too that government has dispatched persons on the ground to provide support to hinterland communities while a call centre to aid citizens facing difficulties is available and could be accessed during working hours,” the Ministry said.
The finance minister further explained that the government is aiming to ensure that the distribution process goes smoothly so that everyone eligible receives their money. Last Friday a total of 48,858 employees of central government which included public servants, teachers, and members of the Disciplined Services, received their grants when the initiative was initially launched.
The ministry reminded that this amounts to a whopping $5 billion of additional disposable income being “placed in the hands of these public servants”. In contrast to 2024 this year, the grant will be paid directly into bank accounts through the banking system, which is in keeping with the president’s announcement, where he encouraged all citizens to open bank accounts, as part of government’s digitization agenda.
The eligibility requirements to receive the National $100,000 Cash Grant paid into your bank account are as follows:
“Government has set up a national help desk to assist persons. This can be accessed on telephone numbers 501-5085 and 503-2977 during working hours. It must be noted that with active bank accounts, government would be able to transfer cash grants swiftly, securely, and efficiently as is currently being done with the disbursements made last week to central government employees,” it said.
Before the grant was rolled out, the Finance Ministry in collaboration with the Central Bank collaborated with financial institutions to have the opening of bank accounts done online through a simplified process.
The following commercial banks have since been facilitating the online opening of bank accounts:

On completion, over $60B is expected to be transferred to these citizens and the current initiative represents the “third major cash grant initiative rolled out by the PPP/C government with the first National Cash grant of $25,000 per household initiated when the PPP/C resumed office in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
