Jay Anderson trades mic for mat, set for BJJ Grand Slam in Brazil

Kaieteur Sports – Guyanese recording artiste Jay Anderson will momentarily set aside his pen and microphone to pursue another passion, as he prepares to represent Guyana at the Jacare Grand Slam Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament on March 21 in Brazil.
Known primarily for his contributions to the local music scene, Anderson is now stepping onto the international stage in a different discipline, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The Guyanese artiste recently earned the rank of blue belt after more than three years of consistent training at 2nd Gear Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a Maryland-based academy that has played a key role in his development in the martial art.
Achieving the blue belt rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is widely regarded as a significant milestone, reflecting a practitioner’s mastery of fundamental techniques and their ability to apply them effectively in competition.
For Anderson, the journey has required discipline, patience, and perseverance; qualities that he says are now influencing both his athletic ambitions and his creative pursuits.
Competing in the Jacare Grand Slam will see Anderson testing his skills against international opponents in one of the sport’s respected competitive environments.
The tournament is expected to attract athletes from several countries, making it a notable opportunity for the Guyanese artiste to showcase his progress while flying the Golden Arrowhead on the mats.
While his focus is currently on the upcoming competition, Anderson has not stepped away from music entirely.
He revealed that an upcoming extended play (EP) project is already about 80 percent complete and is expected to be released soon after the tournament.
Balancing music and martial arts is not always easy, but Anderson believes the two worlds complement each other.
Training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has helped sharpen his focus and mental toughness, qualities he says have positively impacted his creative process.
