(Kaieteur News) – A 39-year-old pillion rider lost his life following an early morning accident on Dennis Street, Sophia, Georgetown last week Friday.
Dead is Henrick Serrao of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.
Police said the accident occurred about 03:00hrs in the vicinity of the Juvenile Holding Centre and involved motor car PLL 6764, driven by a 22-year-old male of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, and motorcycle CN 4508, operated by a 44-year-old male of Cummings Lodge.
According to the police, the motorcycle was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Dennis Street, allegedly at a fast rate, when the rider reportedly lost control and collided with the motor car, which was stationary on the northern grass parapet of the road.
As a result of the collision, both the rider and pillion rider were flung onto the roadway and sustained injuries about their bodies. Serrao was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
The motorcyclist reportedly left the scene but was later contacted and arrested. He is currently assisting police with investigations.
CCTV footage from the area has since been reviewed. Investigations are ongoing.
