(Kaieteur News) – A 57-year-old labourer was allegedly beaten to death by his brother with a garden hoe, on Friday afternoon at Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast.
Dead is Leslie Edwards, called ‘Bumpy’, of the said village.
According to police reports, the incident took place at about 14:10hrs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Edwards was at home with his 59-year-old brother, with whom he lived, when an argument reportedly started between the two. Police reported that the argument escalated and the suspect reportedly armed himself with a garden hoe and dealt Edwards several blows about his body.
Police ranks who responded to the scene found Edwards lying motionless in the yard. He was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body has since been transported to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The 59-year-old suspect was taken into custody and later escorted to the Lima Regional Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention under police guard. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
