Kaieteur Sports – With preparations ongoing for the much-anticipated Kennard Memorial Turf Club Phagwah Horse Race meet, several notable sponsors have signalled their intent to come aboard.
The event, which is slated for Sunday, March 8, at the Club’s track in Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, is shaping up to be a grand occasion.
Seven races are on the day’s programme with a whopping $9M in cash, trophies and other enticements at stake.
Metro Office and Computer Supplies has once again taken charge with full sponsorship of the feature event.
The Company has pledged more than $4M for the race dubbed the ‘Metro Mile’, which also has the Phagwah Cup at Stake. The winner will race away with a tantalizing $2M and the Phagwah Cup over 9 furlongs.
The other events are the F class race for a winner’s take of $500,000 and trophy over 7 furlongs.
There is the H class race which has $ 450,000 and a trophy over 7 furlongs for the top horse.
Three years old Guyana bred maiden horse has a first prize of $350,000 and a trophy over 6 furlongs to aim for.
Horse classified J class races over 7 Furlongs for a top haul of $350,000 and a trophy
The K class and lower event also has $350,000 and a trophy over 6 Furlongs for the winner.
The final event for L class maiden horses has a similar taking of $350,000 and a trophy over 6 furlongs.
Outstanding performances will include the Champion Jockey and Trainer, Runner up Jockey and Trainer, Champion Stable and more. The winners will all receive accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall.
The club has released several rules, which will be used to guide the day’s activity.
Those rules will be published in a subsequent publication.
The event will be held using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club.
