Kaieteur Sports – The Kennard Memorial Turf Club has announced plans to stage the annual Phagwah Horse race meet on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Seven races have been penciled for the day, which has incentives of over $8M in cash, trophies and other prizes at stake.
The feature event on the day’s card is the Phagwah Cup, which is open to all horses in Guyana over 9 Furlongs for a winner’s money of $2,000,000 and a trophy.
There is a race for H Class horses which will see the winner getting $ 450,000 and a trophy, over 7 furlongs.
The three-year-old Guyana-bred Maiden event will see the winner taking home $350,000 and a trophy in the 6-furlong event.
The J Class 7-Furlong race has a pole position of $350,000 and a trophy.
The race for the K Class and Lower horses carries a winning purse of $350,000, over 6 Furlongs.
There is also an event for L Class maiden horses, which will see the animals racing for a top purse of $350,000 and a trophy over 6 furlongs.
Outstanding performances such as the Champion Jockey, trainer and stables among other categories, will receive accolades, compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall.
The event will be held using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club.
