Relatives and friends gathered at the Fyrish Cemetery to pay their final respects to Isabella Dabadial on Friday.
(Kaieteur News) – Seven-year-old Isabella “Hailey” Dabadial, whose tragic death has left the Corentyne community of Fyrish in shock and triggered a wave of national grief, was laid to rest on Friday following a funeral service held at her great-grandmother’s residence in Kilcoy, Corentyne.
The Cropper Primary School pupil was killed on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at her Fyrish Village home in an incident that has stunned the nation.
Her father, 30-year-old Trevor Dabadial, was among the mourners at the funeral, visibly distraught as he grieved alongside family members and persons from the community. The ceremony was also attended by classmates, teachers, and residents who gathered to offer support to the bereaved family.
The child’s mother, Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud, who is expected to be charged with murder and attempted murder, was not present at the funeral. She was reportedly discharged from the hospital on Thursday and remains in police custody.
According to reports, Shivpersaud allegedly killed her daughter and attempted to kill her one-year-old son, Ethan, following a domestic dispute. It is also alleged that she made a troubling social media post shortly before the incident.
The children’s grandmother, Lalita Brijlall, reportedly made the discovery after visiting the home and receiving no response. With the assistance of a neighbour, she entered the house and found both children and their mother unresponsive. The toddler was later found to be alive.
Isabella was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital, while her mother was admitted after allegedly attempting to take her own life.
A post-mortem examination concluded that the child died from manual strangulation.
Reports also indicate that Shivpersaud has claimed she has no recollection of the incident.
The child was remembered as a bright and joyful presence, described by those close to her as having a loving and happy disposition.
Following the funeral service, she was interred at the Fyrish Cemetery under Christian rites.
