Kaieteur Sports – With just one final round remaining, Guyana after securing a much-needed win in their opening match will now look to overcome their arch rivals in Trinidad & Tobago; with huge implications riding on the line as teams scramble for the finals.
Guyana got off to a fantastic start with a five wicket win over Jamaica and given the 3-round limit, a first round Win could only help to keep the former Blaze T20 champs in a position to reach a final.
Trinidad have proved to be Guyana’s bane during the Blaze tournament, as their front-line spinners in skipper Karishama Ramharack, Brianna Harricharan, Anisa Mohammed and Samara Ramnath could once again come into effect today.
Trinidad suffered a loss in the first round which could be a huge psychological push for Guyana, who will look to Shabika Gajnabi, Shamaine Campbell, Sheneta Grimmond, Mandy Mangru and others to have a much better batting game today; having failed to reach 100 in the first game.
The Guyanese bowling has been exceptional since the T20, with spin twins Ashmini Munisar and Plaffianna Millington leading the attack.
Seamer Grimmond along with spinners Tramaine Marks who had 2 wickets against Jamaica and a peaking Kaysia Schultz will need to keep their feet on the gas against players like Lee-Ann Kirby, Shunelle Sawh, Britney Cooper and other key batters in the Trinidadian camp.
Meanwhile, Round 2 counties with two more exciting games as Windward Islands will look to continue their form against Leewards, while Barbados fresh off their first round win will be hunting the scratchy Jamaicans.
The second round of games is set to bowl off from 9:30h respectively, across St. Vincent. (Clifton Ross)
