(Kaieteur News) – Police discovered over $3 million in cash and a quantity of marijuana during an intelligence led operation at Fifth Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River.
In a statement to the media police said that an investigation was launched into the bust which occurred between 10:30hrs and 11:20hrs.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that police ranks conducted a search at the residence of a 40-year-old self-employed male and found 13 zip-lock parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis in the living room area,” police said.
Upon conducting further searches cash amounting to $3,009,440 was unearthed. The man was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the suspected narcotics was weighed and amounted to 23.2 grams. Cannabis and cash were lodged pending investigation, while the suspect remains in custody.
