Kaieteur Sports – Nine of Guyana’s top football clubs are set to battle for another silverware and bragging rights, when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) League Cup kicks off next month, with the competition expected to run from February 14 to March 7, according to reliable sources.
Elite League champions Slingerz FC will headline the field, as they are joined by Super 16 Cup winners Western Tigers, Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Guyana Police Force (GPF), Fruta Conquerors, Santos, Den Amstel, Monedderlust and Ann’s Grove United.

Flashback! Western Tigers’ Samuel Garnett on the move against Slingerz FC Dominique Babb in the Super 16 Cup Finals.
The tournament carries a winner’s purse of $1 million, adding further incentive for clubs eager to stamp their authority early in the 2026 football calendar.
While the GFF is yet to issue an official statement or release the fixtures, excitement is already building among fans, many of whom will be hoping for a repeat of the Super 16 Cup final showdown.
In that encounter, Western Tigers stunned the football fraternity by edging league champions Slingerz FC 1-0 to lift the trophy, a result that reshaped perceptions and fueled a budding rivalry between the two sides.
A rematch on the League Cup stage would undoubtedly be one of the tournament’s most anticipated fixtures.
Sources indicate that the League Cup will be contested using a Round Robin and Knockout format.
The nine teams will be divided into three groups of three, with each team playing the others in their group once. The winners of each group will advance to the semi-finals, along with the best second-placed team, setting the stage for a competitive and tightly contested knockout phase.
In addition to the champion’s $1 million prize, the runners-up will earn $700,000, third place will collect $500,000, while the fourth-place team will walk away with $300,000.
The League Cup forms part of the GFF’s recently released 2026 calendar of events, which signals a more structured and competitive year ahead for the country’s top clubs.
