Kaieteur Sports – Following the revelation from Head of the Medical Panel of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Dr. Donovan Bennett, who recently earmarked pacers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph to be a part of the T20 World Cup squad; the Caribbean side could look to make the most of their fast-bowling weapons this upcoming tournament.
Dr. Bennett during a recent Mason and Guests Show, said he believes the fast-bowling pair will be fully cleared ahead of the ICC T20 Cup which bowls off next month.
The Head of the CWI Medical panel believed that the Guyanese pacer was back to playing form, following his recent performances during some bowling protocols.
Dr. Bennett noted Joseph was bowling at quality speeds, around 140mph during his recent bowling protocols, to which there were no visible signs of discomfort; according to the Medical expert.
In the case of Alzarri, Bennett said his path back to full playing will start with his Return to play Protocol, but expects the right-arm pacer to be back in the mix by the time
The Guyanese speedster Joseph, will bring much to the side despite his still young T20I career and his workspace being in the Test arena; where he made his impact felt on the world stage.
With 15 wickets from 12 matches played and a strike rate of 25.33, the World Cup could be the ideal stage for Joseph to showcase his skills in the shortest format of the game.
One huge area of concern will be how fast the duo can get back into fully-competitive cricket form. While Shamar has not played T20 cricket since last September during the Caribbean Premier League, Alzarri, with a more established T20I career of 45 matches including 62 wickets, brings tons of experience to the team, considering his two 4-Fers and career-best 5-40.
Should the pair return, Windies could form a lethal pace attack, pairing both Shamar and Alzarri alongside possibly Romario Shepherd, Jayden Seals, Jayden Seals, Jason Holder, Shamar Springer or Matthew Forde.
With endless options in the fast-bowling department, the inclusion of two more younger, faster bowling weapons could further help to put West Indies in the upper-tier with regards to teams who will be relying on the quicks to win games.
As the Windies set to battle Afghanistan in a T20 series, prior to the start of the World Cup, CWI has already planned their selection process with players who will be drafted for the Afghan series, possibly forming the core of the World Cup squad. (Clifton Ross)
