National Draughts Association stages Hamper competition last Sunday
Kaieteur Sports – Once again Draught players were treated with Christmas Hampers when the National Draughts Association held another successful Hamper tournament played last Sunday at the Transport Sports Club Pavilion. The game was played on the 10×10 boards as a prelude to next year’s Pan Am championship in Paramaribo, Suriname next April.
Linden player, Floyd Cumberbatch with 13 points captured the first hamper. President of Association Mr. Jiaram from Diamond EBD on 10 points took the second hamper. Georgetown player Steve Bacchus ended with 9 points ahead of Devanand Persaud from Tuschen EBD on 8 points. All four players were presented with hampers. The losers were given a surprise by receiving smaller hampers.

Heading the sponsorship list was Lalta Gainda, Manager Rubis Bel Air ECD, followed by Chunilall, proprietor Fast Relief Pharmacy on Durban Street Werk en Rust.
Other sponsorship came from PRO Sterling Products, General Manager GMC, Johnny P from Johnny P. Supermarket, Elias Gentle Attorney at Law and Super Graphics Ltd.
Former Secretary of the National Draughts Association, Mr. Ranol Gibbs, who is now Proprietor of Midnight Pharmacy on Robb Street and Midnight Boutique and cosmetics store on Cummings Street south Cummingsburg, presented two vouchers worth $12,000 each to the top two finishers. Recipients were Floyd Cumberbatch and Jiaram.
President of the National Draughts Association Mr. Jiaram extended Christmas greetings to all the sponsors and players, while Dr. Ivor English, President of Transport Sports Club, expressed similar sentiments.
