Kaieteur Sports – When the year-end Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) organised 4th annual Banks DIH Christmas futsal championship began last Saturday, the defending champions Silver Shattas were locked with Topp XX 3-3 after regulation play, splitting vital points in their Group A clash; but Blueberry Hill, FC YMCA, Winners Connection and Milerock recorded wins at the Retrieve Hard Court in the mining town of Linden.
The first game of the night produced a 2-1 victory for Blueberry Hill against Fearless in their Group B encounter, with Rondel Archer hitting in both goals for the victorious side.
Peter Johnson got the lone goal for the losers.
FC YMCA then stamped their intentions with a 8-2 hammering of Eagles United, as Morphus Andrews and Lefjuan Hendford got braces, with the other goals scored by Amari Cummings, Darrell Profitt, Orlando Lowe and Mark London.
Kyan Fields and Dexter Milo Jr. scored the goals for Eagles United.
Game three ended with Winners Connection easing past Net Rockers 5-2, with Anthony Layne leading their charge with two goals and the others netted by Akeem Caesar, Devon Haynes and Cedric Hunte.
In the fourth game of the night Hi Stars gained victory via the walkover route after Amelia’s Ward Panthers who did not turn up for their Group B game.
Milerock then downed Botafago 3-1 in their Group D match, behind goals from Ryan Arthur, Jamal Bentick and Rudolph Harmon. Jamal Haynes got the only goal for Botafago.
The sixth match was in Group A clash between the defending champions Silver Shattas which finished without a winner with the scores knotted 3-3.
For the Shattas Omar Brewley hit a double and the other by an own goal, while for Topp XX the scorers were Ryan Arthur, Jamal Bentick and Rudolph Harmon.
The night cap game did not materialize since Capital FC’s opponents Coomacka did not show for the encounter.
The competition continues today, Wednesday, with seven more scheduled matches in the round robin stages of this competition.
