GGA Celebrates Breakthrough Year of Growth, Youth Impact & International Success
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Golf Association (GGA), together with Nexgen Golf Academy and Westside Golf Course, is celebrating one of its strongest years of development, delivering national expansion, major events, youth achievement and international recognition throughout 2025.
The GGA has made huge strides during 2025 with eyes set on bigger endeavors for the new year.
This year saw significant growth in the Golf in Schools programme:
- Region 1 schools received donations of golf equipment to support remote communities.
- Region 6 PE teachers were formally trained to deliver structured golf sessions.
- Region 3 Education Department expanded to include Golf in nursery and primary schools for the first time.
Across all regions, thousands of students were introduced to the sport. Additionally, a remarkable 348 students from Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 passed CSEC PE with golf as their elective, strengthening Guyana’s reputation as a regional leader in golf education.
And with international partnerships, Nexgen Golf Academy launched the nation’s first LPGA/USGA Girls Golf Club, advancing opportunities for young female golfers who make up an astounding 62% of all new golfers in Guyana.
Major achievements in 2025:
- GuyExpo 2025 once again drew massive crowds to the golf experience at the Tourism Village.
- The National Long Drive Championship at the Guyana National Park, held with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission, attracted top competitors and enthusiastic spectators.
- The 3rd Annual National Junior Golf Championship saw 330 young players from 5 regions participating with Bushlot Secondary taking the crown away from 2-time National Champions Leguan Secondary
- Three major Hole-in-One Challenges were held to introduce new players to the sport, adding fun and excitement for beginner golfers
- Introduced night golf with lighted balls to create access to family fun nights
- Charitable Partnerships through the Stride592 Heart Soca Run
- Cross-sport support with renovations to the GNIC Cricket Ground.
Under the GGA banner, Guyana’s players proudly represented the nation in tournaments across Trinidad and Tobago, achieving Top 10 finishes against top regional golfers.
The GGA also earned major National Sports Awards nominations from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission, including:
- Aleem Hussain – Coach of the Year
- Kevon Jawahir – Coach of the Year
- Guyana Golf Association – Association of the Year
President of the GGA, Aleem Hussain, thanked the dozens of sponsors and supporters whose assistance allows the GGA, Nexgen Golf Academy and Westside Golf Course to remain committed to expanding access, empowering women and youth and elevating Guyana’s presence in regional golf.
