Slingerz FC crowned Elite League Champions after undefeated campaign
…Darron Niles named MVP, Akel Clarke “best goalkeeper”
Kaieteur Sports – Slingerz Football Club completed their dream season in emphatic fashion, finishing the 2025 Elite League undefeated and securing the championship title under the guidance of head coach Jamaal Shabazz.

In their final fixture at the GFF National Training Centre in Providence on Sunday evening, the West Side giants played to an entertaining 0–0 draw with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The result preserved Slingerz FC’s unbeaten record across 18 matches, comprising 16 wins and two draws.

For GDF, however, the stalemate was far from ideal.
The former champions entered the match needing all three points to secure a second-place finish.
But their hopes were dashed after the Guyana Police Force cruised to a 4–1 victory over Aden Amstel, which propelled the lawmen to second place in the standings.
GDF were left to settle for third, marking a disappointing end to their title defence.
Slingerz’s dominance this season has been nothing short of remarkable.
The club netted an astonishing 105 goals while conceding a mere five, seen as a testament to their attacking flair and defensive discipline.
Much of that success came through the brilliance of midfielder Darron Niles, who was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Niles, who tallied 17 goals and 16 assists, was the creative heartbeat of Shabazz’s side, orchestrating play with vision, composure, and flair.
His all-around influence was hailed by Shabazz, who described him as “the engine and inspiration” behind the club’s success.
Equally pivotal was goalkeeper Akel Clarke, whose consistency and command of the penalty area earned him the title of Best Goalkeeper of the Elite League.

Clarke’s performances between the posts were instrumental to Slingerz’s defensive record, often coming up big in key moments to preserve clean sheets.
Reflecting on the club’s remarkable campaign, Shabazz described the achievement as “money well spent,” pointing to the synergy between management’s investment and the players’ execution on the pitch.
With the Elite League trophy now secured, Slingerz FC will turn their attention to the upcoming Caribbean Club Shield, where they will look to extend their dominance beyond Guyana’s borders.
