Zone CALZURI of Georgetown wins Seventh-day Adventists – Youth Ministries Ashton Alleyne Memorial Athletics Championship 2025

(Kaieteur Sports) – The athletics championship which is the culminating event of the Youth Congress 2025, was held in Berbice this year, at the Albion Community Center Ground, Corentyne Berbice, on Sunday 19th October.

Eventual winners CALZURI representing Georgetown district and other teams at the march past.
Named the Ashton Alleyne Memorial Athletics Championship, the competition was hosted by the Youth Ministries Department of the Guyana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
The Youth Congress, which is held annually brings together young people from all ten administrative regions of Guyana for a weekend of worship, leadership training, and fellowship under the theme “Back to the Altar.”
The athletics event featured track and field events among eight (8) competitive zones representing church districts across the Guyana Conference.
The day’s activity was very competitive with the athletes showcasing immense talent and teamwork in some events. The uniforms were splendid and very creative.
In the end it was Zone CALZURI, representing Georgetown that emerged as the overall champion with 590 points.
Placing second was Zone WEBPEC -West Berbice Mahaicony, Upper East Coast churches, placed second with 557 points. Coming in third was Berbice Conquerors from East Berbice with 443 points.
Other zones represented included Up All Stars with 279. Salcius came in next with 270, followed by Palbvestz with 245 and bring up the rear was Becun with 119.

The March Past competition which is a big part of the Adventist activities was splendid and very competitive. This was won by Calzuri representing the Georgetown District with 24 as they took the double. Following closely for second place with 23 points was Webpec the West Berbice Mahaicony, Upper East Coast areas with Up All Stars (East Bank, Timehri, Linden, Kwakwani) copping the third position with 19 points.
The event was graced by the presence of Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Honourable Stephen Jacobs, who commended the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its commitment to youth empowerment and community engagement.
Minister Jacobs noted that the championship exceeded his expectations, and applauded the Church’s efforts in fostering discipline, unity, and healthy living among young people. He stated that the government has made a commitment to supporting churches and religious organizations in their youth and community development initiatives.
The Ashton Alleyne Memorial Athletics Championship is held annually in honour of Ashton Alleyne, a dedicated youth leader whose legacy of service and excellence continues to inspire generations of Adventist youths. The activity continues to be a key event in the Church’s youth calendar.
