(Kaieteur Sports) – St. John the Baptist Primary kept their title hopes alive in the 2025 Courts Optical Pee Wee Under-11 Schools Football Championship, thanks to a decisive double from Neymar Edwards. The Bartica side joins St Pius, West Ruimveldt, Tucville, Redeemer, Agatash, St Gabriel’s, and Leonora Primary in the quarterfinals following their victories at the Ministry of Education ground on Saturday.

The round of 16 produced thrilling action, including two massive upsets and several tightly contested finishes, as the tournament narrowed down to its final eight contenders.

After four rounds of competition, St John the Baptist edged past Stella Maris Primary 2–1, with Edwards finding the net twice in the 15th and 21st minutes. Although Joshua Haratio gave Stella Maris a glimmer of hope with a 17th-minute response, Edwards’ brace was enough to seal the win.

In a dramatic upset, Redeemer Primary eliminated defending champions Santa Rosa Primary with a narrow 1–0 victory, thanks to Elijah Naughton’s 23rd-minute strike.

Tucville Primary also booked their quarterfinal spot in a gritty battle against Georgetown International Academy. After relentless pressure, Dominic Dickson finally broke the deadlock in the 36th minute to secure a hard-fought 1–0 win.

West Ruimveldt continued their dominant run in the 12th annual Pee Wee tournament, cruising past their opponents with a 5–0 victory. Zyron Austin opened the scoring in the second minute, followed by a hat-trick from Jaseen Paris, who scored in the 5th, 32nd, and 36th minutes. Ceon Rajkumar added to the tally in the 30th minute, ensuring a commanding win.

Another major upset came from St Pius Primary, who handed Potaro Primary their first loss of the campaign. Marcus Harris struck in the second minute, with Roy Cassau doubling the lead in the 11th. Potaro managed a consolation goal in the 25th minute, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 2–1 defeat.

Agatash Primary advanced after a tense encounter with North Georgetown, which ended 0–0 in regulation time. Agatash eventually triumphed 3–2 on penalties. Similarly, St Gabriel’s edged past Charity Primary in a 3–1 shootout after a 2–2 draw. Charity’s Troy Boston netted a brace in regular time, while Jalen Simon and Zion Hickerson were on target for St Gabriel’s.

Leonora Primary rounded off the day in emphatic fashion, dismantling Marian Academy 6–0. The scoring was led by Adrian Harry and Jhonathan Melvin, who each netted twice, while Colbert Baird and Chrison Austin added one apiece.

With the round of 16 concluded, the focus now shifts to the quarterfinals, where the top eight schools will battle for positions one through eight. Action resumes next Saturday.
