Opener Kevon Boodie hammered his second successive half-century yesterday

(Kaieteur Sports) – A ferocious knock of 54* from Kevon Boodie and a magical spell from left-arm spinner Anthony Adams leveled a hapless GCB Select XI who plummeted to a 10-wicket loss when play continued yesterday at the Lusignan Ground.
It was a lopsided affair, first set up by Adams, who spun his way to 4-27 from 9 overs while his cohorts, fellow spinner Ricardo Adams who had 2-16, speedster Ronsford Beaton (2-9) and the young sensation Myhiem Khan (1-8), stifled the GCB XI for just 69 runs.
It took a grueling 30.3 overs for the pair of Adams and his bowling unit to dispatch Essequibians, while keeping the entire team with the exception of top-scorer Ronaldo Jeffery (22) and Afraz Ali Budhoo (12); to single digit scores.
Boodie, who stroked a more composed half-century in the last match was in a vicious mood against a highly-inadequate Select XI bowling attack, slamming 54 off 33 balls.
The in-form opening batsman muscled 4 sixes while finding the ropes on 5 occasions, as he and Kanhayia Ramkaran chipped in with 14 off 11 (2×4).
The duo’s unbroken opening stand of 70 was all it took to seal the easiest win of the tournament, rocketing to victory with almost 42 overs left in the tank and a full complement of wickets.
Essequibo made light work of the chase, essentially getting to their total in the 6th over, with an ultra-aggressive Boodie needing just 32 deliveries to reach his second successive 50-plus score of the tournament.
Beaton’s huge double-strike to remove the GCB XI openers in Test batsman Tageneriane Chanderpaul (1) and Captain Romeo Deonarain (1), likely put the rest of the team in a state of shock after batting first.
The younger Select team never found their groove despite Jeffery scratching his way into the 20’s before becoming one of Adams’ four victims.
As the Select XI found themselves 8 wickets down whilst barely scraping at 50 runs, wickets continued to fall as the Essequibans never took their foot off the pedals.
Essequibo captain Kemol Savory, who was not required to bat today, had a brilliant day behind the stumps, finishing with two stumpings and a catch courtesy of some brilliant work by his spinners.
Defending champions Demerara currently sits in the number one spot with 17 points, followed by Berbice in second spot with 12 points .
Essequibo with their two big back-to-back wins, now trail the Berbicans closely with 11 points while the GCB XI have yet to register a point after two matches.
Meanwhile, action continues from 9:00h with another exciting battle, as the Berbicians will look to rebound from their recent loss against Essequibo, when they battle defending champs and rivals in a big match;with action shifting to Corentyne Berbice at the Number #69 Ground. (Clifton Ross)
