(Kaieteur News) – An auto-body workman was early Saturday morning shot and robbed while urinating a short distance from a wake he was attending at Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
An investigation has been launched into the incident which occurred at 00:05 hrs. on Saturday. Police said the man “was robbed of a Samsung S9 cellular phone valued at $40,000, along with a haversack valued at $5,000 by two identifiable males of African descent, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The suspects were on a motorcycle (registration number unknown).”
The victim told police that he ventured a short distance from the gathering to urinate, and while doing so he noticed two persons approaching him from an easterly direction.
“As a result, he turned and ran in the direction towards the ‘wake house’, but the perpetrators caught up with him, held him at gunpoint, and demanded money. He resisted, and the suspect with the firearm shot him once in his right thigh, which caused him to fall to the ground. The suspects then relieved him of his haversack, which contained his cell phone and personal documents. The men made good their escape on their motorcycle,” police said.
The injured was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was taken by residents at the wake. He is scheduled to undergo surgery.
