(Kaieteur News) – Armed bandits carted off with an undisclosed amount of cash and $50,000 worth of phone cards on Friday from a Chinese supermarket located in Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.
According to police, the robbery occurred at the Chine #11 Supermarket owned and operated by Zhuangshui Xu, a 38-year-old male Chinese businessman of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.
“…The armed robbery occurred on 2025/10/10 at about 20:44 hours by three males armed with a gun and a cutlass,” police said.
The victim told the police that he was in the supermarket behind the cashier counter, when he observed the suspects entering the supermarket. One of them was dressed in a camouflage hoodie, dark pants and a black cloth tied around his face. That suspect was also armed with a handgun.
A second suspect who was dressed in a long sleeved grey and blue jersey, blue pants and a blue cloth around his face, was armed with a knife. The third member of the group was dressed in a long-sleeved blue jersey and dark coloured pants with a grey cloth around his face. He was armed with a cutlass.
“The victim said the suspects approached him and demanded that he hand over the cash to them. One of the suspects entered the cashier area and took out the day’s sales from the cash register and placed it in a black plastic bag along with the Digicel and GT&T phone cards. The suspects then made good their escape on foot in an unknown direction,” police said.
Several persons were questions as police continue its investigation into the armed robbery.
