(Kaieteur Sports) – The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday announced the much-anticipated return of its Year-End Super 16 Tournament, which is set to kick off on December 6 and climax on January 1, 2026.

FLASHBACK! GDF FC celebrating their GFF Year-End Super 16 tournament win after defeating Western Tigers on penalty 5-4 kicks.
This year’s edition marks the revival of the tournament for the first time since January 1, 2022, when the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club defeated Western Tigers at the National Track and Field Centre to lift back-to-back titles.
According to sources at the GFF, this year’s edition will feature nine Elite League clubs along with seven clubs from Regional Associations participating in the ongoing or recently concluded Senior Men’s Leagues for the 2025–26 season.
Each Regional Association that has either commenced or completed its senior men’s league will be allowed to nominate at least one representative club to join the Elite League sides in contesting the championship.
The final number of participating teams from each region will depend on the status of their leagues, whether active, completed, or inactive, and their official points standings as verified by the GFF.
While the full tournament details are yet to be announced, the return of Year-End football has already stirred excitement across the football community.
Year-End football, thanks to the pioneering efforts of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, has been deeply woven into the fabric of Guyana’s sporting culture since 1990.
It has long stood as the country’s premier off-season spectacle, bringing together clubs, communities, and fans in a festival of football and fierce competition.
However, under the current GFF administration, the once-cherished competition had become almost non-existent, with inconsistent hosting and waning fanfare. Its absence left a void in the local football calendar, one that players and supporters alike have felt for far too long.
