Bent Street crowned champions of 2025 Deputy Mayor’s Cup

(Kaieteur Sports) – The 2025 edition of the Deputy Mayor’s Cup football tournament officially came to a close last Sunday at the Eve Leary Sports Club ground, following that a brief but spirited presentation ceremony was held at the Office of the Deputy Mayor at City Hall to conclude thisexciting seven-a-side knockout championship.

Topping off a fiercely contested tournament, Bent Street emerged as the new kings of seven-a-side football, claiming the Inter-Ward Knockout title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Back Circle ‘B’ in Sunday’s grand finale.

The champions went unbeaten throughout the tournament and sealed the deal in style. Daniel Wilson opened the scoring in the final with a blistering run down the right wing, before Solomon Austin delivered the knockout blow with a powerful finish from close range.

At the awards ceremony, trophies and cash prizes were presented to the top four teams by former national coach Lennox Arthur and Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Honourable Denise Miller.

Bent Street walked away with the top prize of $500,000 in cash along with ten packed hampers, courtesy of longtime tournament sponsor Rick and Sari Enterprise. Runners-up Back Circle ‘B’ collected $300,000 and hampers, while third-place Liliendaal Football Team earned $200,000. Fourth-place Stabroek Ballers rounded out the prize haul with $100,000. All trophies were donated by Guyana Beverage Inc.

Individual honours were also handed out. Solomon Austin of Bent Street was named Most Valuable Player (MVP), thanks to his crucial goal in the final. His trophy was donated by COP Clifton Hicken. Selwyn Williams of Back Circle ‘B’ received the Best Goalkeeper award, while Stabroek Ballers were recognized as the Most Disciplined Team of the tournament.

The road to the final saw Bent Street breeze past Stabroek Ballers 3-0 in the semis with a clinical finish from the top of the box, while Back Circle ‘B’ secured their spot with a 2-0 win over Liliendaal.
