Two seriously injured after truck plunges off hill at Mathews Ridge

Blocks smashed after the truck comes to a standstill against a tree.

Kaieteur News – Two persons were airlifted to the city by helicopter on Thursday after a canter transporting concrete blocks, ran off Heaven Hill, Mathews Ridge, North West District, Region One.

The accident was captured on security camera and showed the truck plunging off the hill at full speed and coming to a standstill when it hit a tree in a resident’s backyard.

The identity of those injured are unknown but they are said to be workers of a businessman who was helping to transport concrete blocks to residents in Mathews Ridge.

A cellphone recorded video of the aftermath showed residents removing a motionless man from the wreck. He appeared to be the driver. The two injured men were taken to the Pakera District Hospital for treatment.

Kaieteur News understands that one of them received severe head injuries while the other sustained a broken leg.

Due to the severity of their condition, the injured men were airlifted to Georgetown Thursday evening for additional medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

The cause of the accident is being investigated however; Kaieteur News understands that the truck’s steering encountered some challenges as the vehicle was descending the hill.
