Kaieteur News – Twenty-seven-year-old Dion Adam Richards who was released on $400,000 bail for causing death by dangerous driving back in 2023, walked free on Wednesday, after a no case submission was upheld by the magistrate.
Back in 2023, Richards of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
The charge alleged that on November 8, 2023, on the Railway Embankment Road at Triumph, East Coast Demerara, Richard caused the death of Curtly Christopher Cambridge, a 32-year-old of Lot 1578 Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, by dangerous driving.
The prosecutor did not object to bail. The magistrate granted bail on condition that Richards reports to the Sparendaam Police Station every month.
On August 27, 2025 Richards appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where his attorney Bernard DaSilva argued that there is insufficient evidence presented by the prosecution to convict his client.
“The state has failed to discharge its evidential burden of proof at this ‘Prima Facie’ stage of proceedings, in relation to the charge of ‘Causing Death by Dangerous Driving,” DaSilva said.
Magistrate Gibbs agreed with the submission and dismissed the matter against Richards.
It was reported that the accident occurred around 01:15 hours on November 8, 2023.
It involved a motor lorry bearing registration GAB 8067, owned by Build Smart Construction and driven at the time by Richards, and a motorcycle bearing registration CK 1795, owned and driven by Cambridge.
