Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh when election time come, everybody does suddenly remember you. The same politician who pass you pon the road whole year and ain’t even blow a horn, now does pull up and want shake yuh hand like long-lost cousin. But the big question is—when yuh put that ‘X’, just who yuh really voting for?
Is it for yuhself? For yuh children future? Or is it for them fat-cats who want keep dem big salary, dem duty-free SUV, dem first-class ticket and dem red carpet welcome? Dem boys seh if politician had to travel like we—standing in long line at Timehri, waiting pon bag that tek longer than court case—half ah dem wouldn’t bother run fuh office.
People does seh vote for change. But change does come easy—change from backseat to front seat in the fancy Prado. Change from ordinary line to VIP line at airport. Change from struggling to juggle grocery bill to juggling dinner between Pegasus and Marriott. The only thing that ain’t change is you—still hustling, still stretching dollar, still wondering how much more rice yuh could boil without lil gravy.
Dem boys seh the sweetest thing is, the morning after election, life does look the same. Yuh wallet still empty, yuh still got blackout, yuh still got water shortage. The only difference is that politician who beg yuh fuh vote now acting like yuh bothering he when yuh call.
So leh we be honest with weself: when we vote, are we voting for we own betterment, or are we just giving somebody else a chance to live sweet at we expense? Because come the day after, yuh gon wake up the same way—mosquito still biting, minibus still speeding, and prices still climbing like monkey on mango tree. Dem boys seh is high time we answer the question: are we voting for dem—or are we voting for weself?
