Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh, a new fad done start on de roads, and yuh know how it go. What start small now turn full blown wahala. De law seh when yuh hear a siren, yuh must pull over and allow de vehicle to pass. Sound simple, right? Well, in Guyana, simple don’t last long. Now, every time police, ambulance, or one government convoy switch on dem sirens, it ain’t just dem speeding. Whole heap a other drivers tek de chance tuh “join de party.”
Dem boys seh, all of a sudden, a two-car convoy turn into a ten-car parade. And it don’t stop deh. People in cars, pick-ups, even lil’ motorbikes start tailing de siren vehicle like de law seh dem entitled tuh ride de blue light express. Dem speeding down de road like dem in some Grand Prix, while regular drivers watching dey life flash before dey eyes.
De real irony is, de law supposed tuh make de road safer, but now it nah safe no more. Everybody busy pulling over, trying tuh get out de way, but de convoy behind still coming like hurricane. Dem boys seh, sometimes it look like de siren vehicle doing humanitarian work, but de followers just doing tourism! Yuh don’t even need GPS, just follow de flashing lights.
And if yuh tink dat only happen with police and ambulances, think again. Government convoys now full fashion show. Sirens blaring, windows tinted, drivers showing off dem speed skills, and de next thing yuh know, all dem “fans” behind dem doh even realize dey creating road chaos. One hand pulling over, de other hand praying yuh car survive.
Dem boys seh, this fad needs to stop quick, quick. Sirens meant tuh save life, not turn road into racing circuit. Next time yuh see a siren, do de right thing—pull over and leh dem pass. But don’t follow dem like dem float parade; dem create more hazard than what de law trying tuh fix. Guyana road safety don’t need fashion trends; it need sense.
Talk half. Leff half.
