According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the eight men were playing cards and dominoes at Asha Robinson shop in Buxton. Around 23:00hrs, the 41-year-old businesswoman went to bed leaving the men in her shop.
“The businesswoman said that at about 23:47hrs, she heard several loud explosions (sounding like gunshots) and she went outside where she saw Mark Correia in a slumped position at the table with what appears to be blood oozing from his mouth, nose and back. She raised an alarm, and public-spirited persons responded and assisted in taking the other injured males to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where Leon McFarlene was pronounced dead on arrival,” police said.
It was noted that 40 spent shells (comprising one .40, twenty-nine 5.56×45, ten 7.62×39) were found. Four projectiles and two fragments were found on the ground in the shop; which were photographed, packaged and lodged.
