– ‘sweeping’ measures include 2-month tax free bonus for men, women in uniform
– $150,000 for senior citizens, disabled persons
– 200 core homes for persons living in dilapidated buildings
Kaieteur News – The Alliance for Chance (AFC) has unveiled its 100-day plan, outlining milestones it hopes to achieve should it assume office come September 1, 2025.
Speaking on behalf of the party, new member, Jaipaul Sharma told reporters Friday, that while the party will not be able to “right all the wrong the PPP did over the last five years”, it will fix as much as it can within those 100 days.
Sharma said the plan “consists of a lot of measures for our senior citizens, persons living with disability and every citizen of Guyana 18 years and above, and I’m speaking about a cash grant.”
He noted that a grant of $100,000 will be made available to every citizen, with senior citizens and persons living with disabilities, including those currently on the public assistance programme, receiving $150,000 each.
“..definitely we giving our senior citizen and persons receiving public assistance more money. This will be a feature going forward with every cash grant, where we will treat them differently, and in addition to that, we also want to promote a 200 core homes for persons that living presently in dilapidated buildings, buildings that in need of serious repair, buildings that should have been torn down.,” he added.
The politician appealed to the public to feel free to send pictures with a contact number to the WhatsApp number of the party of these buildings so that it could have a record of what needs to be looked at when in office and also make contact with the affected persons.
Regarding infrastructure, the party plans to undertake a 200 community road programme in its first 100 days, and citizens are also asked to send pictures and location of their deplorable roads so that it could be addressed in a timely manner.
“Now this is the similar way we going to do it for our budget, 2026, in terms of if we’re not on the ground ourselves, if persons have needs that they address those needs down there at NDC, the RDC, and at the level of the party, our party, AFC, and also at the level of the government. We will have numbers where you will send your information in,” Sharma assured.
He said the party is currently preparing a budget and will be having consultations with the private sector, chambers of commerce and unions. He said the party will not be making arbitrary statements without having detailed information that could be used to service citizens.
“We indicated that we will be paying, believe it or not, two months tax free bonus. That’s two months tax free bonus every single men and women in uniform, and I’m sure the media is going to ask, how we going to finance it. So, it was a genuine question, and before you ask, they’re going to tell you how you’re going to finance it,” he said.
Sharma reasoned that the government this year, passed a budget of over $1.382 trillion and then returned for a supplementary of tens of billions. He said public servants could benefit from “that same $1.38 2 trillion budget, but I’m telling you about 300 billion of that is corruption.”
Sharma said the very $300 billion that allegedly went to corruption could fund all of the party’s programmes and others in the 100-day plan, but the party still has to see what is left of this year’s budget and then it will decide if a supplementary is needed or not.
