A 71-year-old pensioner, identified as 71-year-old Ramroop Sadram, lost his life on Friday on the Le Ressouvenir Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) after a motorcar and a motorcycle collided.
Dead is Ramroop Sadaram of Success Housing Scheme, ECD.
According to police, the accident involved a car bearing registration number PAB 9943 driven by a 48-year-old businessman of Good Hope, ECD, Sadaram and a motorcycle bearing registration number CN 8838 driven by a 27-year-old construction worker of Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD.
Reports are that the car was headed east along the northern drive lane when the driver allegedly heard a loud sound of a motorcycle. The driver claimed that he looked into the mirror and then felt an impact on the rear of the vehicle.
“He stopped and saw a man lying on the road surface along with another man (motorcyclist), both with injuries on their bodies. The Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene where the pedestrian was pronounced dead. The injured motorcyclist was picked up in a conscious state and carried to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is receiving treatment,” police said.
The driver is in police custody assisting with investigations. A breathalyzer test conducted on him read .017% and .019%.
