Kaieteur News – A 24-year-old construction worker was busted on Wednesday along the Annai -Lethem Trail with over one kilogram of marijuana stashed in his haversack.
The bust was made around 14:00hrs after police received information about the drugs.
Sedney Aubrey Johnson of Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara, was reportedly traveling in a minibus carrying six passengers- a woman and five men – when police ranks intercepted the vehicle.
“The driver and passengers were informed of the information received,” police said.
They requested to search everyone on the spot, but passengers asked that it be done at the Lethem Police Station.
Police escorted the bus to the Lethem Police Station. There it was offloaded and passengers handed over their luggage to be searched.
There, police found Johnson with a blue and grey haversack which contained some parcels. The parcels were cut open, and each contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Johnson was cautioned, arrested and taken into custody. The cannabis was weighed and amounted to 1,478 grams.
