Kaieteur sports – Emerging from a field of twenty participating secondary schools, Beterverwagting (BV) Secondary School captured the title in the Toolsie Persaud Limited-sponsored Inter-Schools Boys’ Tapeball Cricket Competition, organized by the GOAPC as part of this year’s Independence celebrations.
The tournament concluded last Saturday at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac, where BV secured a thrilling 8-run win in the final to claim the 2025 Independence Tapeball Championship.
Batting first, BV Secondary posted a competitive total of 71-3 in their allotted overs. In response, Covent Garden Secondary could only manage 63-5, falling just short of the target. In addition to lifting the championship trophy and receiving winners’ medals, BV captain Bhishram Udan was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his outstanding all-round performance.
The action continued the following day, Sunday, June 1, as Covent Garden Secondary bounced back impressively to defeat Richard Ishmael Secondary by nine wickets and clinch the 2005 Secondary Schools Boys’ Tape Ball title.
Chasing 62 for victory, Covent Garden openers Orwin Jordan (23) and Vinish Lalpoo (36) made light work of the target, guiding their team to a dominant win. Lalpoo was later named MVP for his match-winning knock. With the ball, Jordan also contributed by taking 2-23, while Brandon Bryan supported well with figures of 2-29.
This year’s tournament was made possible through sponsorship from Cummings Electrical Co., Gafoors Industrial Limited, the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Colin Klass Associates, and Ismael Joias. The event was coordinated by James “Uprising” Lewis.
