-Mainstay crumble to another heavy defeat
Kaieteur Sports- The dynamic duo of Shem James and Ian Daniels was in full effect on Sunday evening as Santos Football Club (FC) toppled a formidable Fruta Conquerors side in the latest weekend fixture of Season VII of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League.
The National Training Centre (NTC) came alive as Santos FC continued their impressive campaign, edging Fruta Conquerors 2-1 to secure another crucial three points.
Earlier in the evening, Guyana Police Force Football Club (GPF FC) dismantled a struggling Mainstay Goldstars FC side with an emphatic 8-1 victory, led by a clinical hat-trick from Neron Barrow. Barrow found the net in the 18th, 41st, and 49th minutes in a standout performance.
Keswin Fraser opened the scoring in the 7th minute before Barrow doubled the lead just 11 minutes later. After the halftime break, Barrow wasted no time in increasing the tally, netting again early in the second half to make it 4-0.
Stephon Ramsey added to the scoreline with two spectacular goals in the 60th and 81st minutes, while Adrian Aaron (83rd) and Nicholas McArthur (85th) rounded off the Police’s dominant display. Tian Mendonca provided the lone consolation for Mainstay in the 54th minute.
In the headline clash, Santos FC and Fruta Conquerors battled through a goalless first half, with both defenses holding firm. The deadlock was finally broken in the 56th minute when James pounced on a chance and coolly slotted home to give Santos the lead.
Fruta responded in the 67th minute, courtesy of Stefan Walton’s equalizer. But just as the match seemed destined for a draw, Daniels pierced the Conquerors’ defense in the 86th minute to restore Santos’ advantage. With time running out, Santos’ backline held strong, sealing a hard-fought 2-1 upset over the Tucville-based outfit.
Meanwhile, in Saturday’s other fixture, Monedderlust FC pulled off a surprise 3-2 win over Den Amstel, with goals from Tyrone Delph, Dawit Watts, and Rayon Rose securing the points.
Elite League action resumes this weekend, don’t miss another weekend of high-stakes, high-intensity football as the GFF rolls out more of the nation’s premier football entertainment.
