Chinese national crushed to death by 40ft container at Grove worksite
Kaieteur News- A Chinese national was crushed to death at his Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) workplace on Saturday, after a 40-foot container collapsed on him.
The deceased has been identified as Eddie Yang, a resident of Bagotstown, EBD, who was employed at Zheng Xin Aluminium Alloy Doors and Windows Processing Factory, located at Lot 26 Grove Public Road. Yang was at the front of the premises when the fatal incident occurred.

The Ministry of Labour in a statement issued Monday, said that “a large quantity of glass stored in a 40-foot container at the front of the premises unexpectedly collapsed, trapping Mr. Yang beneath it.”
Co-workers at the scene quickly raised an alarm and subsequently took Yang to a nearby healthcare facility. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
The ministry’s occupational safety and health (OSH) department has since launched a formal investigation into the incident. The probe is being led by senior occupational safety and health officer, Darwin Bourne, and OSH officer, Ray Hosannah.
“The investigation aims to determine the cause of the incident and to ensure full compliance with safety regulations at the workplace,” the ministry stated.
Labour Minister, Joseph Hamilton, reminded employers and workers of workplace safety and the need for proper occupational safety and health measures. He said such precautions are essential to prevent, “similar incidents/accidents that can result in the loss of lives of loved ones,” the ministry stated.
