…reportedly told investigators she entered wrong date
Kaieteur News- The Guyana Police Force (GPF) confirmed on Thursday that a civilian staff member and a sergeant from the Special Constabulary are at the centre of the false report that 11-year-old Adriana Younge was abducted.
In a statement, the GPF disclosed that the civilian staffer, who was on duty at the command centre on the day in question, admitted to detectives that she entered the wrong date while checking the camera system near the Double Day International Hotel, East Bank Essequibo. She had been tasked with verifying whether Adriana had left the hotel. As a result of her error, she misled police ranks by reporting that she observed a female matching Adriana’s description leaving the hotel with a male, police said in the statement.
The police also revealed that a sergeant from the Special Constabulary Unit falsely claimed that while on duty in the Region’s Operation Room, she received a call from an anonymous male informing her that Adriana was seen leaving the hotel and entering a black Raum motorcar. Detectives tracked the call and arrested the man, who turned out to be well acquainted with the special constable. He told police that he and the officer had a 10-minute conversation during which he relayed information he claimed to have overheard outside the hotel. Call logs confirmed the duration of the conversation, the police statement read.
It was stated that the “Civilian employee and police ranks, respectively, were sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.” This disclosure by the police comes days after President Irfaan Ali revealed that a civilian was responsible for the false information being disclosed. On April 24, the GPF officially admitted that their earlier statement, which claimed Adriana had been abducted, was false. That initial release, issued after the child was reported missing during a family outing at the hotel, claimed that footage showed her leaving and being taken away in a Raum motorcar.
