Kaieteur News- The disappearance and subsequent death of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge in the pool of the Double Day International Hotel and Bar at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), is eerily similar to an incident which occurred at the same premises some 13 years ago.
Younge’s body was discovered floating in the hotel’s swimming pool about 20 hours after she disappeared.
The child’s body was discovered around 10:00hrs on Thursday by family members and enraged protesters, who stormed the hotel premises. Younge’s body bore visible signs of violence, including injuries to her hands, knees, and face; there was also what appeared to be cotton wool stuffed in her nose, raising immediate suspicions of foul play. The discovery was made hours after police released information stating that surveillance footage caught the child leaving the hotel premises in a motorcar.
The child’s death triggered memories of a similar incident which occurred at the hotel on November 21, 2012.
Sadeek Juman, 20, was found dead in a swimming pool at the popular Double Day Hotel days before his birthday.
His body was discovered in the pool by hotel workers around 16:00 hrs, about 24 hours after he was seen entering the facility. Investigations revealed that Juman was beaten into a state of unconsciousness and dumped in a hotel pool.
It is alleged that Juman left his parents’ Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara home on Sunday, November 18, 2012, and visited his grandmother at Ruby, East Bank Essequibo.
Accompanied by a female friend and others, he later headed to the Double Day Hotel. Information gathered by detectives indicates that while he was there, Juman got into “a heated exchange” with a group of men. The men inflicted a severe beating on Juman.
“They allegedly put him in a room at the hotel, and when the place was silent, they allegedly put him in the hotel pool to give the appearance that he had drowned,” a police official said.
A pathologist would later state that Juman died from drowning, compounded by blunt trauma. Double Day Hotel’s owner’s son, who is also the manager, Bhojnauth Bhola, and a staff member, Leyland Johnson, were later indicted for Juman’s murder. The case was later discharged by a magistrate.
