Memorial softball match set for former Guyana youth payer Shivnandan Madholall

Kaieteur Sports- A 20-over memorial softball match is set for former Guyana youth player Shivnandan Madholall on Sunday, April 27 at Reliance Sports club ground, Essequibo Coast, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

According to his elder brother Rovendra Mandolall, another ex-Guyana Under-19 cricketer, the action is slated to bowl off at 11:30 am.

Mandolall, who is currently residing in Canada, stated that the family is still saddened with his passing but will be excited to commemorate his 12th death anniversary with a cricket event.

Shivnandan Madholall

Shivnandan Madholall passed away in 2013 age 30 due to Malaria. He represented his county Essequibo at the junior and senior levels while he wore national colours at the Under-15 and Under-19 levels as well.

Rovendra mentioned that the two teams to participate are Anisa X1 and Marco X1. Those are Shivnandan’s two children aged 15 and 13 respectively.

“We [are] indeed still saddened with his death but we all know he was an outstanding cricketer for his Village Reliance, Essequibo and Guyana so we are delighted to play a match in his memory,” Rovendra related.

The two teams comprised of players from the village and who would have touched gloves with Shivnandan during his cricketing career.

Some prominent names from village that represented Essequibo and by extension Guyana are: Mandolall, Rovindra Parsram, Mark Austin, Narendra Madholall (sibling), Bridgelall Lall, Trevis Simon, Marvin Pearson, Ravendra Madholall (brother), Premanuth Persaud, Dhanny Benny, Shashie Persaud among others.

Mandolall also informed that the day will have live Facebook commentary and musical entertainment among other activities.

“Absolutely, we want to go out there and play a good match to remember him; he was a die-hard cricketer and ferocious player so I believe the day going to be fantastic,” Mandolall, who Captained Essequibo in under-19 and senior cricket, declared.

Over the years, the brothers have hosted matches for Shivnandan and Mandolall said they will continue to play the cricket matches in the future. He expressed his gratitude to all the players for their continued participation. Each player for this year’s edition will be wearing coloured jerseys with Shivnandan’s photo inscribed.
