Kaieteur News- Pritipaul Singh Investment Inc (PSI). has caught another boat captain and his crew on camera stealing prawns from the company. The boat captain who has been identified as Said Kissoon has since gone into hiding and has refused to answer his phone.
Earlier this month, another employee Nolan Paton, was caught stealing from the company. He is yet to be arrested. It is believed that Kissoon went into hiding following the discovery of the theft.
Kissoon reportedly stole 2500 pounds of the company’s prawns, 1000lbs more than the other boat captain stole.
Kissoon and his crew had reportedly left in the company’s trawler to harvest Seabob on March 10, 2025.
He returned on March 18 and after reviewing footage from his trawler’s security camera, company officials discovered that he and his crew stole 2500lbs of the company’s production on March 15.
PSI, in a statement, had said that Paton’s theft was discovered on March 14, when he and his crew returned from sea.
The company learnt too that the stolen products are being sold to individuals who resell them along the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), specifically at LBI and Montrose.
Pritipaul Investment Inc. had reported the theft to the Providence Police Station but no arrest was made.
“…Instead, the company’s official was advised to report the matter in the district where the incident occurred,” the company had stated before calling on police and the relevant authorities to swiftly prosecute the matter.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Pritipaul Singh told Kaieteur News that boat captains and their crew have no reason to steal from the company because they are paid per production (per pound).
Apart from good pay, the company also covers fuel costs and food for each captain and crew.
Singh said sometimes the company would run a loss, barely making enough money to cover costs, just to ensure workers are paid in full. It is believed that the two incidents are not the first.
The CEO told Kaieteur News that in addition to experiencing low catches, stealing places an extra burden on the business.
