(Kaieteur News) – A man has been arrested for the alleged murder of 42-year-old Oswain Lawson, a taxi driver of Lot 46 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam Berbice, which occurred on Tuesday morning at Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice.
Lawson, a father of two, resided at 46 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
In a statement on Tuesday, police reported that Lawson was involved in a fatal accident, but the visible wounds on his body conflicted that preliminary summary. Ranks later revisited the scene, and following further investigation, apprehended a 21-year-old contractor of Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice.
Earlier police reports stated that the incident occurred around 01:30hrs on the Edinburgh Public Road. Lawson was reportedly at a social gathering at a shop in the area, when he had an argument with the suspect before he was attacked.
He reportedly fled the location, crashing his vehicle into a trench along the said public road in the process.
Lawson’s body was removed from his car, with multiple gapping stab wounds seen on him.
His sister, who spoke to this publication on Tuesday said the visible wounds on his body, proves that he did not die by vehicular accident.
“Oswain did not die by no accident. Oswain has some stab wounds on him, and those are some big stab wounds,” Cheryl Mentore stated.
“I was also home when I get the message, and I saw the picture with the five wounds. I don’t know exactly what happened, but somebody said that the person stabbed him and he jump in his car to drive away,” she added.
The man’s aunt, Claire, said she was sleeping, when her sister called her at 5:00am stating she had some “bad news.” She was then told that Oswin had died.
An Edinburgh resident told this publication that he was in bed when he heard an impact from the direction of the public road.
“After I heard the noise, I come and peep from my window at the front there, and I see the car knock the shed, and go in the corner at the back. The car went in the trench,” the resident stated.
He said he was familiar with Lawson, who would frequent the popular hangout spots to party with friends.
