GCB U17 50-Over Inter- County Tournament Round 2…Demerara vs. Essequibo
Kaieteur Sports- Demerara completed a 14-run win over Essequibo thanks to a good bowling exhibition led by Parmeshwar Ram with support from a few batsmen yesterday at the LBI Cricket Ground.
Demerara posted a modest total of 172 all out in 46 overs, carried by their young core featuring Emmanuel Lewis (33), in-form Shamar Apple (28), opener Parmeshwar Ram (27), Marcel Nandu (20) and Danesh Persaud, who played arguably the most important knock of the team.
Persaud carried the tail as he hit a vital 27 off 49 with three fours which gave their team a respectable end score, before falling to some classy bowling by the Cinderella County boys.
Spin twins Jathniel Nurse who claimed 3-16 from five overs and leggy Navindra Sankar, who chipped in with 2-34 and fast-bowler Darwin Joseph provided the shot in the arm with 3-27, which helped to keep the opposition under 200.
The Essequibians, who basically set up the game in their favor, misfired terribly losing 4 wickets with less than 20 runs on the board.
In the end they could only muster 158 after 40.1 overs elapsed, with Elisha Ramdat (43), Nicholas Lovell (24), Darwin Joseph (21*) and Bhomesh Lall (18) carrying the batting.
Ram bagged 3-21 as he continued to grow as a part-time bowler while spinner Dave Mohabir (3-27) and Munesh Outar (2-16) lent ideal support on their way to victory.
Elisha Ramdat top scored with 43 for Essequibo.
Lewis who faced 44 balls with three boundaries to his name, not much came from the batting order.
Only the late flurry from the unbeaten Persaud who kept his cool during the late stages, helped push Demerara over that psychological 150-run mark while staving off the likes of Joseph and Nurse in the process.
Demerara followed up their massive 177-run win over the Select XI on Sunday with another convincing win, ahead of their final match against Berbice on Wednesday at LBI Ground.
